Science News Learning is a sponsored program of Society for Science that helps
educators incorporate the most recent applications in science and STEM research
into core curricula. The program leverages Science News Media Group’s award winning print and online journalism, which includes more than 100 years of scientific discoveries, and provides an expansive library of ready-to-use lesson plans, including Graphs of the Week.

‘Teach Data Literacy: a guide for primary teachers’ is a resource developed by the Data Education in Schools team to support teachers to enhance opportunities for all to build the skills and habits of mind relevant to data problem-solving. The guide offers practical guidance, links to resources and a poster to support teaching data literacy skills and concepts across the primary curriculum.

The Banana Survey Project is the 3rd place winning lesson plan selected from the DS4E Bite-Sized Lesson Plan Competition. In this lesson, students create a visual survey inspired by the Banana Survey and then add one other follow-up question in order to create two-way tables.

Tuva creates a K-12 data science ecosystem for math and science that includes its own proprietary data science software, lesson plans, and datasets. The Tuva team also offers both live and recorded workshops to enable teacher training in data literacy education.

Stats Medic provides ready-to-be-taught lessons that align with the textbook Statistics and Probability with Applications (4e). Each lesson is designed to be taught in an Experience First, Formalize Later (EFFL) format in which students work in small groups on an engaging activity before the teacher formalizes the learning.

TechGirlz offers workshop plans, documents, and guides that can be used to implement data science lessons with middle school students. Lesson plans are available for instructors with any level of data science and coding proficiency.

The Tech Interactive supports educators in developing the next generation of problem-solvers through resources and professional development. Interdisciplinary lessons that focus youth on how to use data to take action in areas of interest to them, their communities or the world. Lessons are designed to make the data relevant to students and allow a jumping off point for further exploration of data science skills and methods.

The UCLA Introduction to Data Science offers a complete data science curriculum for high school students and several professional development opportunities.

Tableau is a data visualization platform offering free licenses, teacher learning resources, and curricula to schools and educators, including lecture slides, homework assignments, discussion board activities, and test banks.

Teknikio offers curriculum and tools for data science that are widely available and accessible to educators and learners through the Tekniverse platform. Curriculum is designed in collaboration with like-minded groups to demonstrate the social and environmental impacts of data. Activities involve various tools and kits available on the site, and there is a cost to purchase materials.

The Thrills of Roller Coasters: Using Data to Make Recommendations is the 1st place winning lesson plan selected from the DS4E Bite-Sized Lesson Plan Competition. In this lesson, teachers and students can experience digging into the thrills of roller coasters and use an easy-to-use data tool to explore, structure, process, visualize, and model data.

X-STEM All Access – presented by the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Space Force, and Discovery Channel – is an entertaining, educational, and interactive online STEM experience for 6-12th graders. Through a series of online episodes, students will get an inside look into the exciting careers and inspiring personal journeys of diverse STEM role models through a lively Q&A session with a fellow STEM professional. Access NGSS and CASEL aligned lesson plans and other resources to accompany this episode.
