Panel: Jobs And Equity: How Data Science Education Strengthens Our Communities & Workforce

The American economy is at risk. Demand for data scientists continues to skyrocket. The Bureau of Labor Statistics considers data science one of the top 20 fastest growing jobs with 31% growth over the next decade. But young people are not being prepared for this projected workforce, particularly students who attend low-income schools. The issue goes far beyond the job market. After all, today we are all data users and consumers -- exploring, answering questions and making decisions based on data every day. Join this panel to learn how we can better prepare our students for the 21st century workforce and create more equitable communities. Panelists: Katy Knight, Executive Director and President, Siegel Family Endowment (Moderator) Dr. Leigh Ann DeLyser, Co-Founder and Executive Director, CSforALL Trena L. Wilkerson, Ph.D, President, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Jessica Lyons, Senior Academic Program Manager; Tableau for Teaching Salesforce/Tableau Dr. Karina Montilla Edmonds, Senior Vice President and Head of Academies and University Alliances, SAP.
